Hi Geoff- Sorry to break this out into another thread. I purchased the.pdf version of 'ReaMix: Breaking the Barriers with REAPER' last night, and I think it's *exceptionally* well done! You already know what I think of your writing, and the examples/samples I've been able to try so far are excellent. I'm going to put it on my Kindle so I can carry it with me everywhere! A few questions/comments as I'm going through it, in no particular order, and to no one in particular -- not to place a burden on Geoff -- anyone please feel free to jump in! - How do I default the Master Output to Main Outs instead of Phones (MOTU Ultralite)? I know I can create a Template, but every time I open an existing project I have to change the Output before I can hear anything. I want to have Phones as an option, but not as the default output. - Is the 'Simplify envelope data when recording automation' setting still available, and if so, where do I set that? - At one point in ReaMix it says 'Position your play cursor at 1:24.000' - What's the quickest way to 'Go To' that (or any) point? - Schwa's Spectro is extremely cool, and I will be purchasing that like right now, based on what I did with it so quickly/easily (see ReaMix, page 49)! - Oh, and Schwa's Notepad is very cool as well! It reminds me of but is better than the notepad in FLS, which I often used to automate for lyrics. Kid in a candy store here -- I'm very much a newbie with REAPER, an oldie with SONAR, but this is some really valuable stuff, no matter! Go get ReaMix if you haven't already. Thanks- -Susan. Not sure exactly what you mean by 'default the Master Output to Main Outs instead of Phones (MOTU Ultralite)' as this seems to be a request specific to your setup/hardware BUT if you click on the IO button for Master Track then on the Audio Hardwrae Outputs drop down, you might get a nice surprise! Have to check on the envelope thing and get back to you. Thanks for purchasing the book, I do hope you find it useful. My MOTU Traveler defaults to headphones. I think the reason is so that you do not accidentally blow your speakers to pieces by accidentally having them on when it starts up. Gee Nicholas was fast on that he must be online now that it is late at night in Eastern Australia (and darker by far down there where the convicts souls are restless.and Nicholas too). That is when apocalyptic pops and stuff mostly occur. I will check it out in the morning as I will be working with the gear and see if what I am saying is right in the clear light of day. Dog be with you. How do I default the Master Output to Main Outs instead of Phones (MOTU Ultralite)? I know I can create a Template, but every time I open an existing project I have to change the Output before I can hear anything. I want to have Phones as an option, but not as the default output. On second thoughts, might be best done thru the routing matrix - make sure you have Show audio hardware as destinations ticked. Though this is on a per project basis, so for existing projects that still won't help you. Think that one may have me stumped. ReaMix: Breaking the Barriers with REAPER is excellent, it arrived last week and I'm thru most of it but will go thru it again. It illustrated some very nice routing examples (including the shadow and bookend panning). I have read a lot of mixing books and even taken a mixing class and I must say that this book is very nice, the examples/ samples are very helpful. But I would still suggest beginners find a buddy or someone that knows something about mixing because that is also invaluable. It's like trying to teach a person how to do a side kick (martial arts), there's too many small details that might be missed (by a beginner) If you're trying to learn from a book or video but if you have some basic understanding then you could learn a lot even from book/ video that lacks much detail. With that being said I still think this is a excellent book and I recommend it to everyone no matter what daw you use. Hi All- Thanks so much for your replies!
